Sketch Noting for The Tomo

Hi I am Fiona Bester and I am a teacher in a Year 7 and 8 class/team in Rangiora, North Canterbury. I have been involved in a couple of @NZReadalouds before and am really excited to start The Tomo soon. I hope it arrives soon as I haven't heard about my order...

We start school really early on Monday 31st of January so will be on it the pre reading activities soon. One of my and my classes favourite activities last year was Sketch noting.

We will start by watching this ted talk:

We then we will practice our sketch noting skills while we watched a film about student agency called Learn like a jungle tiger.

I will let you know how it all goes! Good luck for the start of the year for you all.

  1. Hey Fiona thank you SO much for being the first teacher active in the blog. And what a super post to start us off. The sketchnoting is a crucial part of the kids 'active learning' during the reading aloud and this video has always been a success when I've used it. Learning Like a Jungle Tiger is a cool way to practice sketchnoting too - a great message to start the year. Looking forward to connecting with you and your class in here.

  3. I really like the sketchnote video Fiona. I'm one of those people who thinks I can't draw - but I could draw these cartoons! :-)
